"as a professional photographer he has also seen the country with a
different eye through the viewfinder of his camera, and recorded it in a series
of quite stunning and evocative photos"
Peter Clayton on cover of Egyptian Holiday
Please see The Ancient Egyptian Foundation site on which my photographs will
eventually be seen.
I have completed a selection of old albumen photos,
which I have been collecting, by Beato, Frith and Sebah from 1857-1890 on
Alamy along with modern versions - a Then and Now project - April, 2008.
I have been photographing in Egypt since my
first visit in 1994. My interest in
Ancient Egypt
went back to my earliest schooldays but
it
was not until 1994 that I was able to fulfil a
lifelong ambition to visit the country.
Please note that a full
list of my collection with Alamy.com is on the Egyptian Galleries page - just
key in my name and the subject required in their search engine. My own online
image library of Egyptian photos is
CROOKTREE.COM. On Crooktree in the Links page there is a detailed article
about my photography experiences in Egypt.
Contact me if
there is not exactly the photo or location required as I may have it to hand.
Scans and digital images can be forwarded to tight deadlines.

On my first visit
and being a professional photographer I set myself the task of starting a
library of good colour and monochrome photographs, as well as taking photos
for a book I decided to publish encapsulating this first Egyptian
experience. This B&W book was eventually published in 1996 under the
Crooktree Images name as ‘Egyptian Holiday’ and copies are still available
from me. |
Since
my first visit in 1994, I have made ten more visits to Egypt, expanding my
photo coverage of many ancient sites. My library stock is in medium format
square and 645 colour transparency format, 645 and 35mm monochrome, 35mm
chrome and 35mm colour negative stock and since 2002 mainly digital.

The sites covered
extend from Alexandria and as far south as Abu Simbel. Apart from the all
the main sites visited by most tourists, I have visited many of the outlying
pyramids, including views of rural Egypt and along the Nile. Interiors of
the Cairo and Luxor Museums, some of the pyramid chambers, various temples
and tombs are also available, The City of Cairo, and Luxor and Aswan, Lake
Nasser and its sites, all the Light Shows and the El Fayoum area are
covered. Some images of modern life in Egypt are captured as well although
the concentration of my library is on the ancient sites mainly visited by
tourists.
