Photographs on this page are recent ones of Dunnottar Castle, a spectacular ruined fortress on a rocky outcrop in the North Sea, to the south of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire. It has history going back into times of the Picts and the earliest start of Christianity but it later became an important player in the turbulent 14th century of Scotland and an eight month siege against the troops of Cromwell and the saving of the Crown Jewels of Scotland.
